Saul was chosen to be the first king of Israel. Why did the Israelites choose him? They thought he looked like a king. He was tall, strong and handsome. They wanted a celebrity-like king, so they could be like other kingdoms around them. But Saul had many flaws in his heart. His looks were very deceiving. The people had chosen Saul, but God had chosen someone else.
God sent Samuel the prophet to Bethlehem. He went to Jesse’s home and looked at all of his sons. Did any of them look like they could be a king? Shouldn’t the one who looks like a king, be a king? That was the mistake made with Saul. The Lord then said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” 1 Samuel 16:7
Samuel asks if all the men were there, perhaps there was an absent one. There was another one. He was the youngest, tending the sheep, a faithful servant. David looked more like a boy than a king. But it was he who God had chosen. David was then anointed, the Holy Spirit came upon him. He sinned and messed up, as we all do. But he genuinely spent time with the Lord. He truly loved and worshipped God. From a shepherd boy to a shepherd king.. He is known to be a man after God’s heart. Bethlehem is now known as the City of David, Jesus’ birthplace.
A few weeks ago, I dreamed that I was in the living room of the most gorgeous mansion. A celebrity was giving me a haircut. He was absolutely striking and flawless in appearance. Immaculately dressed. I felt honored to be taken care of by someone so beautiful and well-admired. He asked me two questions.
What is your ethnicity? Where are you from?
Lost in beauty, status and privilege.. I couldn’t see that my haircut was incredibly messy. It was becoming completely uneven and horrible.
How do we keep from being deceived? We must love our Lord more than anything, like King David did. When he was in the wilderness, he wrote Psalm 63:3, “Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.” We must turn from our own thoughts and ways.. To remain in seeking God’s mindset, rejoicing in Him always…
What is your ethnicity? I am a child of God, my identity is in Christ. A chosen race in His royal priesthood.. Where are you from? A holy nation, a citizen of heaven.. Appointed to be born by God, created from the Lord..
That is our privilege and honor.. Our lives are a testimony to our King and His grace and goodness. What are the things God cares about?
He cares about us knowing who we are, our purpose in Him.. He cares about our hearts. He wants our minds to be on Him. Not on the mansion of someone else. Or the fame and lavishness of another.. Or a special service we may think we are receiving.. It isn’t about what it looks on the outside, our inside is so much more important.
In a world where idols and programmings are trying to make things so Godless.. Keep pressing into the Father’s heart. Stand on His alive and active Word. Know who you belong to and where you’re from.. Pray for one another.. Keep in repentance, God wants no one to perish.. Beloved ones, we are here to make Jesus more and more known.
So let go of what you think things should look like. Keep focused on what Jesus looks like. He looks like Perfect Love. He looks like forgiveness, grace, compassion. Humility, mercy, peace. Fearlessness, holiness. Healing, power, miracles. Light, joy. God’s plan for Church has always been for others to see Jesus through us.
These are lyrics from Hillsong’s song, titled From the Inside Out:
“My heart and my soul, I give you control.. Consume me from the inside out, Lord. Let justice and praise become my embrace.. To love you from the inside out.. Everlasting.. Your light will shine when all else fades.. Never ending.. Your glory goes beyond all fame.. And the cry of my heart is to bring you praise.. From the inside out, Lord my soul cries out..”
Godhead, we love You. We praise You. Bless the one reading this. We repent of any idols and distractions. Holy Spirit, give us such deep desire to always want our hearts right with You.. May we be totally in love with the things Jesus loves. Our perspectives are so limited.. Help us to see through Your eyes, Lord.. Your thought’s span eternity. Hallelujah. Thank You that You choose in Your will. Glory to You O God.. To know You more and more is everything.. We love You with all our heart.. All our mind, soul and strength. We love Your house more than any other place. Better is one day in Your house than a thousand elsewhere. All is for Your glory. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
